Philippians 4:6-7 -Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (KJV)
We all have some good days, and we all have some bad days. When the bad days come, I personally have the tendency to shut down sometimes. Not only do I shut down, but I also become encumbered with whatever is troubling my mind and it won’t leave me. God showed me a simple concept just yesterday. He told me it’s a good thing go through sometimes-- so rejoice even on the bad days and don’t stop praying. Whenever we go through, God wants the reassurance that we know where our help comes from, and that help is Christ himself.
It’s good to be afflicted…because the Word tells us that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord is able to deliver him out of them all (Psalm 34:19). When we go through our days of affliction, we must be confident in the one who’s going to bring us through. God is our deliverer—and therefore we take to him our burdens and the things that make us weary. We give him all thanks knowing that our sufferings are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us (Roman 8:18).
This is your reminder that when you go through, don’t stop praying. Allow the hand of God to be present on your life. Have an attitude that says when I get out of this, my testimony will be prayer got me through. Be likened unto Job who said, the Lord knows the way I should take: when he has tried me I shall come forth as pure gold (Job 23:10). Don’t let your circumstances get you down, rejoice knowing that God has your back. Your afflictions are necessary as a believer so don’t faint, keep your hands lifted to the Lord and don’t stop praying.
Daily Application: Take a moment to think of some of the things that have been troubling you, and write them down. Come back to your writing during your prayer time and talk them over with the Lord. Keep the prayer at God's feet and be intentional about your attitude towards the matter going forward.
Colossians 3:23- “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (KJV)
A little over 2 years ago I sat in the Good Year, dreading going back to work after a 2-week quarantine. It was my 3rd school year at that job, and I had pretty much been looking for a new job since I started. Nothing was motivating me, and my work performance was nowhere what it used to be. I sat and asked the Lord to prepare me to go back and in a still small voice He said, “whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord.” I rested with the word for a minute and thought to myself, God and I both knew that my heart had left the job a long time ago. I loved my students, but not enough to push pass what I was lacking from the establishment. After praying a little longer, I realized what I had to do. By the end of the day, I had made the decision to quit my job. Most people around me were confused about my decision—a lot of people thought I was moving in haste because I didn’t have another job lined up. However, I knew that my action was between the Lord and me. I put my trust in the Lord’s plan and I never lacked at any given time.
Fast forward to now and God has pressed those same words upon me. I thought of how I can be quick to go through the motions of saying yes to things and not actually want to do it. I can do things but on the inside I’m complaining. God said to me today, these things ought not be. Whatever our hands find to do, we must keep Jesus in mind. Our deeds should not be for others to see what we’re doing to get a pat on the back. Remember that God sees all our work and He wants our hearts to be pure in everything we do. We don’t do things out of self-gain or manipulation. Whatsoever we do, let’s always be mindful that God must get the glory out of it all.
Daily Application: Have there been instances in your life recently where you know you’re not doing things heartily? Think of some reasons why it may be this way and pray about some ways you can change this.
